Running into the Olympics (Literally)

At Oxford now with not a lot of time to blog, but I will try!

Yesterday I headed straight to Portobello Market after breakfast. It’s this huge market that spans close to a mile with everything from clothes to antiques to fresh food! I didn’t buy much, but it was fun to explore. There were also some pretty good street performers!

Then I got myself slightly lost looking for Kensington Palace, but I found it eventually! I walked through the gardens and Hyde Park all the way to Harrod’s, which is a GIANT department store. They have a bunch of specialized stores all under one roof, such as a chocolate shop, perfume shop, and pet shop! It was super cool.

When I came out of Harrod’s the road outside was all closed and I found out the Olympic cycling race was about to go by! I got to the front and cheered them all on as they passed! It was a great atmosphere and there were tons of people.

From there I went to the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square. It was a little disappointing because many rooms were closed due to a strike, but it was free so I’m not complaining! Then I went to go see Big Ben and Westminster Abbey. I passed the Olympic volleyball venue and heard lots of cheering!

I was pretty tired from walking around so much all day, so I grabbed dinner at King’s Cross and headed back to Pax Lodge for my last night there.
