Woohoo, I’m on Day 10 of the 30-Day Book Challenge! A third of the way done! Today’s prompt is an interesting one: A book that reminds you of home. The first book that came to my mind was Where the Mountain Meets the Moon because of its themes about family, but I already wrote about that and I’m not sure it really reminds me of my home, so much as the idea of home in general. Instead, I picked a book from my childhood that I read over and over again with my mom and sister: If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.
I’m not sure how many times I read this book when I was little, but I’ve probably read it more times than any other book. Even Harry Potter! I don’t know if I wanted a small mouse of my own to give cookies to, or if I wanted to be the small mouse, but I loved everything about this book. I haven’t read it in years, but I can still picture the illustrations in my head. The image of the mouse all cuddled up in a box with a blanket and pillow reminds me of being nestled in my bed, listening to my mom read me the story.
If you loved If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, I suggest you check out some of the other books in the series. If You Give a Moose a Muffin is my second favorite, but there is also If You Give a Pig a Pancake, If You Give a Cat a Cupcake, and several more!
